Ginger Cookies
1 cup sugar 3/4 cup shortening 1 egg 4 tablespoons molasses 2 tsp baking soda 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp cloves 1 tsp ground ginger 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1 tsp cinnamon 2 cups flour
Cream sugar, shortening and egg, add molasses. Combine dry ingredients and add a bit at a time to the shortening mixture. If the dough is too soft, chill. Roll into 1 inch balls, coat in sugar and place on a baking sheet 2" apart. Do not press down, they flatten as they bake. Bake for 10 -12 minutes at 350 F

That's the same recipe my Mother in-law gave me when I first got married. No wonderittle Mario likes them so well, they are delicious and my favorite too.

That sounds like the recipe I used for Molasses Crinkles. I remember sprinkling a few drops of water on them after rolling them in sugar. I used to send them to my dad in Pennsylvania. They packed and mailed well. Thanks Caroline.
